Managers and coaches are responsible for field conditions and care, ensuring fields are always "ready to play." Familiarize yourself with these guidelines and educate your coaching team on proper techniques:
Field Maintenance
- Assign players/parents to groom the field after each game and practice. Two people per session, ensuring infields are dragged without dirt spilling onto the grass.
- Remove bases and insert base plugs before dragging. At the end of the day, place bases in the equipment shed with base plugs in place.
- Rake base paths in the same direction as the path to prevent dirt from entering the grass.
- Fill and pound down holes around the pitcher's mound or home plate. Use field tamps for this purpose.
- Water the mound, batter’s box, and infield dirt between games to control dust and maintain a suitable playing surface.
- After each game in the hot months, water the infield dirt thoroughly. (After the last game of the day, water to a depth of 3-4 inches.)
Field Etiquette
- Avoid unnecessary infield grass use.
- Use mats when throwing batting practice from the infield grass. Remove any L-screens promptly.
- Store home plate and pitching mats off the playing surface.
- Do NOT hit balls into fences.
- Preserve our fields and parks. Report abuse to the Folsom Parks & Recreation Department.
- Report broken sprinklers or leaks to your Division Rep. Your efforts save league costs and potentially lower fees.
